Ginseng has an ancient history, and much folklore has accumulated about its actions and uses. The genus name, Panax, is derived from the Latin panacea meaning ‘cure all’.

Ginseng is an adaptogen , a substance that acts to enhance nonspecific resistance to various external and internal stressors. Thus, it has a wide range of possible therapeutic uses. Its best therapeutic application is for the weak or elderly., for whom the adaptogentic and stimulating properties can be profoundly useful. It should not be used indiscriminately, as its stimulating properties are contraindicated in some pathologies.
